Question by focus: Should i study computer science or Ecommerce. Which will involve application development. Also which pays more? see i have a choice to either do ecommerce or computer science in college. if i will do mba later is it worth it to do ecommerce Best answer for Should i study computer science or Ecommerce. Which will involve application development. Also which pays more?:

Answer by fieldworking
Computer science will involve application development. You could major in computer science with a minor in ecommerce.

Answer by EF
I do not know the details of either one but I know several people who studied computer science and are now working/looking for work. I often hear that computer-related jobs such as IT and others are sometimes hard to find especially during the recession. Also because technology is constantly changing at such a fast rate, computer science majors often find their skill outdated quickly and have to take classes occasionally to keep up to date. Hope that helped.

Answer by Klay
Ecommerce would be what I'd chose. At the university level Computer science majors are hated where I am and its because of their requirements and standards. They usually get away with going to school twice a week and only take 3-4 classes. They have too much time on their hands and usually abuse it- screaming, drinking and partying.

Answer by swimgirl
If you want an EASY major, do computer science. If you want a difficult major, double major OR major in Ecommerce, minor in computer science.

The idea was to take this Mary Kay-style business model and bring it into the e-commerce realm, Fox says. “We see this as the next evolution of social commerce,” he says, referring to the concept of face-to-face social commerce. “It's a lot more time ... Fashion e-commerce platform Kitsy Lane to provide small-business marketing ...

Shopping has become an everyday activity for each one of us. Buying and selling is a day-to-day activity nowadays and this is one part of outflow of money that can never come to a halt. None of us can survive without shopping. No one has time to go to the stores and take time to choose and then purchase. In order to make this ordeal easier, the concept of E-Commerce has become a boon to the human race.

E-commerce in a layman’s language is online shopping or shopping over the Internet. This has made easier for us to shop from home or office or from any part of the world. This saves up the time of driving to the store, parking your car, choosing the things and finally paying for the shopping and driving back home. Nowadays everything is sold online and delivered at your address. One can easily choose the size and from the different variety and this also saves up the trouble of coming back again if the product is not available since whatever is available will be right there on your screen.

This type of trade has become exceptionally popular due to an everyday use of Internet and laptops.

There are two types of E-commerce, one of that takes place between businesses, which is referred, as business-to-business or B2B and the other one is that takes place between businesses and consumers, which is referred as business to consumer, or B2C. Companies like Flipkart and snapdeal conduct this type of trade and have led to introduction of few more in this competitive world. The growing market of E-commerce has affected few other industries like travel agencies where one can book their travel itinerary while sitting at home and the bookshops since one can buy books online and read them online.

Companies dealing with E commerce need to be aware of the expectations of the consumers in the countries where they are interested in expanding.

One of the advantages to customers is that they can review the shopping history in the same website.

With the wide range of online shopping websites, one can compare prices and choose the best option out of too many.

A very known Indian online website called flipkart started off really well but has been receiving a lot of complaints recently due to its poor service. Many people have complaints regarding delayed shipment, damaged goods, goods not delivered neither is the money returned. This kind of service can harm the brand name. Poor service like this can just lead to angry and dissatisfied customers, which will soon lead to an end to the company.

Snapdeal- one of the similar shopping forum has made many of its customers angry and dissatisfied. Many complain that the products are not delivered after making the payment by the debit or the credit card. And no body responds to the complaints and makes false promises.

A company stays in the competition only if it keeps its customers happy and that solely depends on the service.

Answer by Friendly Stranger..
To make a suggestion please post it here: http://suggestions.yahoo.com/?prop=answers To answer your question, this (at least in my opinion) isn't practical. For one E-Commerce is a broad field or topic. It can cover a variety of things. The way Y!A has it set up is it breaks down categories into specifics so users know exactly where to go for their answer or question. If you have one large category like E-Commerce then the section will eventually be overrun but too many questions. By breaking things down into simpler and less broad categories it gives users a chance to hone in on what their specific question or answer is. I think most users are for keeping things simple. You have a decent proposal but it doesn't seem practical at least not now.

Implementing various ecommerce projects for such Corporate ERP applications, as Microsoft Dynamics GP (formerly known as Great Plains Dynamics), plus SAP Business One, we figured out that the majority of the customers are looking for quasi real time ecommerce shopping cart integration strategy. Quasi real time integration means that shopping carts are moved to your accounting application every half an hour (or even every five minutes, if you would like to call integration in such a short time interval, assuming that you have a transaction every few minutes). There are several ecommerce add-ons for Dynamics GP, we are also offering ecommerce module, extending Great Plains Sales Order Processing and Inventory Control, however we believe that you should be happy as the end user of Dynamics GP and GP customer, implementing very simple ecommerce to SOP integration via Integration Manager. IM allows you to cross DB platforms and call ODBC compliant source records from such databases as Oracle, IBM DB2, MySQL/PHP/Linux, Microsoft Access, FoxPro, XML, Excel, Pervasive SQL, Ctree, various text files (CSV, tab delimited or custom character delimited), but not limited to the ones listed above. Lets review the paragraphs, describing how IM could solve your integration needs:

1.Integration Manager, this tool is very traditional to Great Plains Dynamics and with the introduction to eConnect technology (reprogramming Great Plains Dexterity code in encrypted SQL Stored Procedures with various software development libraries, opening eConnect methods for MS Visual Studio programming, for example). IM doesnt intervene into MS C# or VB.Net Visual Studio programming (instead it only restricts you to such a bit obsolete technologies as VBA event driven scripting). But, instead Integration Manager offers eConnect connectors to enable high integration performance (breaking through formerly known IM restrictions on the number of transactions to be imported). With Integration Manager you can enjoy such advanced integrations as having Counterpoint POS custom accounting export to be integrated as SOP POS transactions with Credit Card, Cash, Check and Debit Card deposits (to give you the flexibility level example)

2.Scheduling IM Integration. There is scheduling module, available directly from Microsoft Business Solutions, however we expect high level of programming talent in your IT department, and probably your IT folks could find and deploy freeware Microsoft Windows Macro software to call Integration Manager Integration every twenty minutes or so

3.Do I have to implement real time ecommerce shopping cart integration to Dynamics GP? We believe that the majority of the ecommerce merchants are deploying such industry standard shopping carts, as Magento, ASP.Net Storefront, where such functions as Customer pricelist, Sales campaigns are already automated? This is exactly the reason why we are recommending Integration Manager, where you in simple words sending ecommerce shopping cart directly to SOP Invoice or Sales Order. Real Time shopping cart integration is the mechanism, allowing you to propagate Sales transactions in the matter of seconds this is definitely something looking as a great plus, but is it really required?

4.Real Time ecommerce Shopping Cart integration eConnect. Theoretically eConnect is better and more advanced, but it requires C# or VB.Net programming in MS Visual Studio to deploy in real time integration mode

5.Now to the SAP Business One customers. We already published several articles on the analogues SAP B1 Data Transformation Workbench (similar to Dynamics GP Integration Manager). SB1 SDK is in ecommerce integration options pretty similar to Dynamics GP eConnect you can deploy SAP Business One SDK libraries in Microsoft Visual Studio C# or VB.Net project to program real time shopping cart export into Sales Order or Invoice

6.To request further support, please call us 1-866-528-0577, help@albaspectrum.com We need to discuss your cards in order to recommend you the best solutions, which is not contingent to our preferences. We serve you USA/Canada nationwide via remote support (web sessions and phone/skype conferences). Whether you are living in NYC for years or you have just moved in, you should always bear in mind that it's not easy to secure a good job in this part of the world. New York is one of the most expensive cities to live in the United States. But the good thing is that salaries are quite high as well. However, you still need to keep a few important points in mind. For instance:

1. Although job search engines are quite powerful, there is no guarantee if they will work for you or not. In other words, there is no way of knowing how long it will take you to secure a job in NYC.  That's the reason why many people believe that finding a job is actually a job in itself. Nevertheless, you can simplify this whole process with the help of a popular job search engine.

2. When searching for your first job using a New York City jobs hiring site, you should never shy away from in the temporary arena. Just by conducting your search in the right way, you may end up securing some light industrial jobs, or jobs that help you earn some money in the process.

3. If you are searching for a job in a city like New York, you should be open to all available options. It means you should be willing to think and look outside the box. You can always find people who bartend and wait tables at nigh and at the same time search for a different job in the morning. You can always follow suit and considering finding two or more temporary jobs to make good money. Here, you can also think of finding some freelance work until you find a proper job. For this, you need to use the best job search engine.

The crux of the matter is that finding a right job can sometimes become a long row to hoe. If you are not clear about what you want and how the whole thing should be tackled, you will end up finding yourself in a sheer amount of stress and depression. Therefore, it's advisable to understand all abovementioned points and perform some research to choose a good job search engine, as that's the simplest way of securing a job in New York City.

TIME what makes us tick? is it our inner clock, or are we part of a gigantic clockwork regulating our daily moves? Observed on a human scale, the very basic rhythm of every day is sunset and sunrise, we go in to bed and out of bed. A rhythm, so elementary and universal and at the same time so intimate. This is an impression of Sync' by Max Hattler and 'Bedrooms' bij Nelleke Koop with music by Dennis van Tilburg. These were part of the 'Time, what makes us tick?' installation in the Open Mind series of Pavlov E-Lab, presented on the Noorderzon Performing Arts festival 2010. In this edition Max and Nelleke collaborated with chronobiologist Martha Merrow and physicist Eric Bergshoeff in their mutual exploration of the theme of Time.

A comparison between ASP.NET and PHP [ecommercesmarketing.blogspot.com]

A comparison between ASP.NET and PHP [ecommercesmarketing.blogspot.com]

This is an introductory video for AsxpCommerce a Asp.Net based complete open-source e-commerce solution.

http://brandurenni.com// Introduction to AspxCommerce .Net E-Commerce Solution

PHP and ASP.NET are the mainstay in the web development world. People are using them extensively in their websites to have a dynamic and real time experience for their users. Where PHP is an open source available across the internet without any cost. .NET is a Microsoft product that has to be bought from Microsoft. All good things don't come free thus a few plug-ins and add-ons in PHP are paid  which give PHP a lot of power and dynamism.

To start in PHP you don't have to purchase anything and can start free of cost whereas in .NET you have to purchase Visual Studio, IIS, Microsoft Server to get started. At the end of day when you compare the costs of both you will find to have the full benefits of PHP the cost will eventually run more than that of ASP.NET. The only difference is that you will spend in lump sum initially for ASP.NET and for PHP the money will go out in installments as you buy more and more add-ons and plug-ins.

As per feedback and market analysis from all across the world .NET is considered the most safe platform for developing websites especially Ecommerce websites which experience a high rate of exchange of money and monetary products and services.

One can easily make use of Dynamic Link Library and use it in future for similar applications without much coding which is not rally possible in PHP.

PHP does not come with any templating system.

While you can simply include portions of your template, it isn't as powerful as ASP's built in MasterPages. You can use templating systems for PHP from third parties, but it is yet another addon that you will be required to get.

.NET incorporates the power of WCF (Windows Communication Platform), Web Services, WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) assembly which makes programming really fast and secure. This all is not really possible in PHP which makes programming and coding a cumbersome task.

Thus saving a few dollars at the cost of the functionality and security of your website is not at all justified as the stakes are high and you may ruin your chances on the World Wide Web. Suggest A comparison between ASP.NET and PHP Articles

Answer by Jeremy
First, SEO is a subjective term. Getting clean URLs like product/cellphones/nokia for example is actually known as SEF (search engine friendly). Just about any decent system will have this. The rest is quality copy text and doing a good job filling in the product details as much as possible. Each system will have different features as well, which is far more important. I would look at Magento. It is a solid platform that has both a community (open source) edition and a professional grade level for serious sites. Magento has grown quickly, and is one of the best ecommerce PHP systems available.

Tips To Selecting E-commerce Shopping Cart [ecommercesmarketing.blogspot.com]

This partnership will serve to simplify e-commerce for merchants all around the world. With a custom, tested integration process, Allied Wallet and X-Cart have made their products run seamlessly in synchrony. X-Cart has released version 4.5.1 with a ... Allied Wallet and X-Cart Offer a Global Solution

http://brandurenni.com// What's new in X-Cart v4.4

There exist many e-commerce shopping cart solutions for diverse business needs. A business interested in getting one must determine the features and options necessary for its need, once that is done, they should shortlist identified solutions which offer the best value for money. There are also free e-commerce cart systems that many businesses will find useful.

How to select an e-commerce shopping cart system

Select a payment processor

This decision affects the type of shopping cart system because not all of them integrate with all payment processors. Some businesses may choose companies such as Moneybookers or PayPal because they are easy to integrate and do not have setup fees, however, in the long run they could end up costing more as they tend to charge a higher percentage for processing.

Another popular alternative to the above payment processors for accepting major credit and debit cards is Authorize dot net, it can also be cheaper over time, but there is an initial setup fee and the business must apply for a merchant bank account. Some shopping carts allow for multiple payment processors, so list all options that the company wants to have available for its customers.

Choose a service fulfillment center &/or delivery method

Many shopping carts offer full integration with pre-determined fulfillment centers. This offers an advantage of having real time shipping and reporting. If the product is only available via downloading, then make sure that the shopping cart has the option for offering digital deliveries.

Estimate the projected number of monthly transactions

Majority of hosted e-commerce shopping carts have plans which limit the number of monthly transactions. In order to know which plan to consider and compare between shopping cart solutions, having the forecasted number of monthly transactions will be a great help.

If the forecasted number of transactions exceeds or is close to the maximum number, then the best option would be to use e-commerce shopping cart software or have a shopping cart developed.

List which features the business needs from its shopping cart

Not all e-commerce shopping cart solutions offer the same features so determine in advance which features it must have. For example, multi-payment processing, client image uploading, client side admin panel, wish list, coupon codes, digital downloading and auto responders.

Research ratings and reviews

If deciding not to go with developing a new e-commerce shopping cart system from scratch, then research the different hosting or software solutions available. There are many websites that offer reviews and ratings, but beware of their motivations as many just offer generic ratings for individuals to click on their affiliate links.

Another great resource is to go through forums to find real testimonials and receive input from actual users.

Contact references

Most shopping cart solutions offer a list of references for companies using their product. Contact at least three companies to get their input on the software if testimonials were not found online through forums.

Finally make your purchase

Make sure that the merits and demerits of each type of shopping cart is clearly understood and the needs of the company have been identified. It can be costly, time consuming, and inconvenient for customers to later switch shopping carts so it's imperative to get the proper one be installed from the start. E-commerce in India Vis-a-Vis China: Keynote by Shailendra Singh, Sequoia Capital, at ESparks 2011

http://brandurenni.com// "Investments in E-commerce" by Shailendra Singh, Managing Director, Sequoia Capital India

The present growth of e-commerce in India is marred by many challenges - security of online transactions being the biggest challenge. The problem for many of the e-commerce businesses are due to two reasons â€" lack of proper infrastructure and poor customer awareness of the online frauds.

Many of the small business owners in India overlook the importance of the authentic software, mainly due to budget constraint. According to a survey (2011 Small Business Virtualisation Poll) by Symantec, though many small businesses are showing interest in online business, many of them are not taking even the basic steps to secure and protect their online business. It states that around 75 per cent of the respondents didn’t have antivirus on their virtual servers and more than 50 per cent didn’t have a firewall.

Many businesses use pirated software and they don’t even update their anti-virus.

The main risk associated with the pirated software and anti-virus is that there are no security upgrades available for them, which makes them more vulnerable to spy and Trojan attacks. This counterfeit software deployed by them has high chances of getting injected with malware, virus, bots, and loggers. It is risky to do online financial transactions on such computers as the bank and credit card info could be stolen while doing the online transactions.

When it comes to customers, very few are aware of the online frauds. A survey by Norton states that half of the Indian Internet users are unaware of the online security solutions available to them.

How businesses are overcoming these challenges?
Significant percentage of the business sectors in India are impaired by the above mentioned challenges. In spite of all these challenges, there are few sectors that have overcome (and are still overcoming) these challenges successfully and represent the solid and real growth of e-commerce in India. They are the banking and financial sectors.

Banks beefing up their cyber security
Banking and financial institutions in India have individually taken the charge to control online banking frauds to not only protect their interests, but also the customers’ interests. Any kind of phishing or malware attacks from either the customer's side or the bank's side will lead to the leakage of financial credentials and thus result in bogus transactions. Hence, many of the reputed banks in India such as State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC, ICICI, etc. are beefing up their cyber security by following best in the industry practices such as, implementation of 256-bit Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption, etc.

Banks spreading awareness on online transactions
Banks are also creating awareness among their customers about cyber security by sending SMS messages such as 'don't give passwords', don't perform transactions in cyber cafes', 'install authenticated software for computing', etc. Some banks are also advertising in newspapers and magazines. Further, almost all banks including State Bank of India (SBI), Punjab National bank (PNB), Axis bank, have a prominent section on their home page designed for cyber security tips and suggestions.

The very recent announcement of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to act against the banks that do not implement guidelines on electronic security of their transactions and operations by October 2012 stands as a testimony of their serious effort to ensure safe net banking.

Some online retailers use their employees to deliver the products and collect the payments on delivery, thereby, reducing both, online transaction and delivery risks. Sites such as Flipkart.com, Snapdeal.com, Jobang.com, etc. offer cash on delivery. This is encouraging people to make more transactions with online stores.

Visa â€" verified by Visa password
Added protection is ensured for online shopping with many of the Indian banks offering the 'Verified by Visa' service. 'Verified by Visa' is a service which gives you an extra password that re-confirms your identity while making online transactions. Many banks including Indian Bank, State Bank of India, ICICI bank are offering Visa cards, which are automatically activated with this service. One can also activate his/her normal credit and debit cards for this service and have the facility of making safe online transactions at the 'verified by Visa' online stores. This simple to use service enables authorized payments and safe online shopping.

Even in case if someone is able to get hold of credit card details (typically when using the card at a physical store) they would not be able to know the ‘verified by Visa’ username and password. This protects the credit card holder from unscrupulous persons stealing their credit card number, expiry date and code to make online purchases.

Overall, there has been significant innovation done by both e-commerce companies as well as financial institutions in India to encourage online purchases. Today, the people who are aware of online risks and have built the competence to deal with it are safely doing online transactions. The increase in the size of this kind of people is essential to sustain e-commerce growth in India. Related Businesses in India Overcoming E-Commerce Challenges Articles

Microsoft dynamics RMS cart is usually a complete shopping cart system that integrates Dynamics RMS and your ecommerce store. The whole application is developed on .NET platform (although this can be done on PHP as well); through a web integrator (that generates and reads XML files), the Microsoft ecommerce cart communicates with Dynamics RMS running at the retailers end. The web integrator uploads your product details from your RMS to the Microsoft ecommerce store and once orders are passed, the same web integrator can help you to download the orders from your Microsoft ecommerce cart to the retail management system. The whole process can be either manually controlled or completely automated. Depending upon the frequency of orders and the state of your inventory, the stock updating and order download processes can be scheduled and can be maintained in almost real-time.

The top benefits of Microsoft ecommerce cart are as follows:

To manage a Microsoft dynamics RMS cart application you do not need to maintain two separate work forces. The same workforce who manages your retail store can also manage the Microsoft ecommerce store comfortably

Both your brick-n-mortar store and the Microsoft ecommerce cart are served through Microsofts powerful Retail Management System resulting in flawless operations in all aspects of your retail business

You can give any look you want to your Microsoft ecommerce store. Your customers will experience the same ease of movement and friendly environment while they shop.

All your business figures are consolidated your physical store and online sales. You no longer have to process your sales report separately and later collate everything in a painstaking way.

However, getting the right vendor for Microsoft ecommerce store is not so easy. There are not many in the market flexible enough to give you the right options/features to run your business. They may offer plenty of features; but at the end, it matters what you need for your online retail business and not what they offer. So, instead of offering a set of pre-made options, the Microsoft dynamics RMS cart provider should be capable of developing all the modules or options that you actually need. Above all, the vendor should not charge you a fortune for the solution; your Microsoft ecommerce cart system should be affordable too, besides being flexible. Question by CPARMG: Im building an ecommerce site. Can I build a site with a shopping cart or do I need to buy a merchant gateway? I am building a ecommerce site and am wondering if I can add a shopping cart into build or do I need to buy a merchant gateway seperately? Best answer for Im building an ecommerce site. Can I build a site with a shopping cart or do I need to buy a merchant gateway?:

Answer by snow_skimmer
you need both. the shopping cart will have all the code you need to store, display and handle the customer login, ordering and shipping details. you will need a merchant gateway to process the credit cards for you. be sure you gateway company can use the shopping cart software and vice versa, that the shopping cart supports transactions to your merchant account. this can be as cheap and simple as using paypal or as pricey as authorize.net don't forget to get an ssl certificate and get certified. without encryption, a gateway will refuse to talk to your site.

Microsoft's Office Live Small Business service lets you add a shopping cart, and you can process credit cards through the site meaning customers can shop your store with ease. Cheers, Jeff MSFT Office Live Outreach http://smallbusiness.officelive.com/en-us/
